MEET CALVIN!

ROLE

Solo Developer

DESCRIPTION

Meet Calvin! was my honours project for my degree. This covered rigging, animating, UI design, animation programming, and development. The research question was "Does interactivity affect the perceived realism of virtual animals?", and to answer this, a short Nintendogs-style simulation was developed.

Using a sphynx cat model by Ilya Rogov, a rig was created with Advanced Skeleton with weights painted with ngskintools2. and textures painted in Substance Painter.

This features user-controlled lighting, parameterised materials (for eyeshine in the night scenes), triggerable animations, and random idle animations.

This was a huge project (probably too big, and had to be scaled down significantly and reworked due to time constraints!) but this was my first foray into creating user-controlled parameters for games and working with dynamic materials.
