DESCRIPTION

This tool was inspired by my years working as a sound and light technician. As much as I love lighting, the lack of a lighting interface in Unreal Engine was sometimes a little frustrating. Being unable to change the intensity or other parameters of a group of non-matching lights made my creative process feel a little tedious.

Thus LightForge was born - or the slightly less creatively named 'FaderTool', as displayed in the WIP video below. This tool allows the user to group any type of light in the engine and create an array with them so the parameters can be changed all at once - currently intensity and colour alone, but will be expanded with the following features:

  • Apply/change light function material for all lights,

  • Rotation (pan/tilt) of lights in the same group,

  • Custom sequencer track (using Unreal Engine's own beta plugin as a template)​

It's not a replacement for Light Mixer, but it does make quick changes much easier, certainly for the way my brain works!

Three short cinematics/shots have been planned with this tool in mind to demonstrate its effectiveness.
