SNARE

ROLE

Shaders / Lighting / Rendering / FX / (Some) 3D Modelling

DESCRIPTION

This was the first project created as part of my masters course with my now long-time collaborator Timon Holzer. This was a pretty ambitious project (perhaps our most ambitious yet!) using mostly pre-created assets, with a handful of edits done by myself.

While I'm very aware a few things need some tidying up, I'm really pleased with how this came out. We directed the motion capture together along with some actors from Dundee & Angus College who very kindly lent their time to us using VICON motion capture cameras and software.

Timeline for this project start-to-finish was about 6 weeks not including pre-production. It's arguably a little frowned upon to use existing IPs for student work, but we were both on a big Warhammer 40k kick after binge-reading several of the novels over the summer break, so it felt like the right thing to do at the time. (And I would absolutely love to do some more work in AoS or 40k universes in future - probably once I'm a bit more comfortable and competent modelling the majority of it myself!)

The whole concept of this was a small team of Ultramarines flying out to a chaos-corrupted ship after receiving a strange, distorted signal from it. (Which turns out to be a snare, if you will...)

There were plans for a scene with a chaos infested servitor, but time constraints meant this had to be cut - but I would love to add to it in future, when I am not completely inundated with work!
